Robbers shot Chris Botes dead in cold blood

The Botes family’s life changed forever shortly after the New Year dawned when robbers shot Chris Botes (43) dead in cold blood.

According to Chris’s twin brother Gert, Chris and his family came back from vacation and just wanted to relax at the house. Just after 01:00 on 1 January 2015, gunmen accessed the house in Sonlandpark.

“My son also slept there, and one of the robbers pointed a gun at the children and ordered them to stay. Chris got up when he heard something and then one of the robbers shot him in the chest”, said Gert.

Chris’s girlfriend was also beaten by the robbers during the attack.

Chris’s son, Christiaan pretended to sleep and the robbers did not steal his mobile phone. He called his cousin, Gert’s daughter as soon as he could, who called Gert and told him what happened.

“I entered the home where I found my brother in a pool of blood.”

“We raced to the Midvaal Hospital, he had a very weak pulse and did not respond“ said Gert. Chris later died from his injuries. “The cruelty of this attack is inhuman” said Chris’s father, Lou. He and his wife, Elsa has six children, three of whom died. Two of their daughters died in a car accident.

Chris has two children, Christiaan (16) and Chrisna (18).

One of the stolen vehicles was found near Walkerville but no arrests were made.
