Man shot during Brondal farm attack

Mr. Koos Kruger is in stable condition after armed robbers shot him twice on February 28, 2015 in his home. Kruger and his wife, Leigh, were sleeping in the bedroom when six men stormed the house. Four men were in the house and the other two stood outside, keeping watch.

Shaun Terblanche, operations manager of J&M Security Nelspruit, said the men first broke into the office, which borders the house. However, they could not enter the house from the office and then walked around and cut the burglar bars of an open window and climbed in.

Kruger was awoken at 03:00 with four men already in the bedroom. One suspect was holding a handgun. There were words between Kruger and the suspects, and the armed man shot Kruger in the chest and arm.

Ms Kruger collapsed and pretended she was also shot. “The suspects picked up and dropped their arms to see if they were really dead. The robbers then start looking for the safe, “says Terblanche.

“While the robbers were busy in the other room, Ms Kruger got up and started dragging her husband out of the room. One of the suspects returned to the room and saw her. She ran out of the house and two of the robbers chased and caught her. They started beating her.

According to Terblanche, Ms Kruger is not seriously injured.

All six suspects went back into the house and took four of Kruger’s firearms. They also stole an unknown amount of money. The suspects had cut the electric fence, and left the farm.

J&M Security were called to the scene, where after they called HI-TECH medical services, Mpumalanga Emergency Medical Service, Netcare 911 and also the police.

Mr. Jacques Ainslie, manager of HI-TECH Nelspruit’s medical services said Kruger had lost a lot of blood and was critical at a point. “We took him to Nelspruit Mediclinic, and he is now in a stable condition.”

The suspects are still at large.
