Two burn to death in Newcastle horror crash

Two people were killed in the early hours of this morning after they burned to death in their bakkie on the R34, outside of Newcastle in KwaZulu-Natal.

ER24, along with provincial Fire Services, arrived on the scene and found the bakkie lying on its roof off to the side of the road. The bakkie had caught alight and had rapidly been consumed by the flames.

Firefighter rushed over and immediately began to battle the blaze.

After a short few minutes, the fire had been extinguished and paramedics were able to approach the vehicle for further inspection.

Two lifeless bodies were found lying trapped inside the vehicle. Unfortunately, due to the extensive burn wound, both occupants could not be identified and were declared dead on the scene.

It is understood that the vehicle had been traveling from Memel towards Newcastle when the incident occurred.

Local authorities, as well as the accident investigations unit, were on the scene for further investigations.
