Farm workers help apprehend two farm attack suspects
Wimpie Oosterhuis - Farm attack in South Africa

Two of the four attackers who assaulted and tortured a couple on their farm near Delmas, were caught by the farmer’s farm workers.

Wimpie and Sunet Oosterhuis were severely assaulted on Wednesday night.

The thugs waited for them to return home and attacked them around 20:00.

Wimpie was shot in the arm and beaten with pipes.

The couple was then tied up outside the house while the robbers ransacked the house.

The attackers demanded money and called Wimpie always by his name.

“They kept saying they were looking for R10 000. When my brother said he did not have the cash with him, they took with his wife in to the house,” Jaco Oosterhuis told Beeld. Jaco is Wimpie’s brother.

Jaco himself experienced a violent farm attack seven years ago.

The attackers later fled with the couple’s pick up truck and a variety of stolen items.

“Wimpie is still very traumatized.”

“He had a very helpless feeling during the attack, especially when he was tied up lying on the ground and the attackers disappeared with his wife in to the house.
“He did not know whether they will torture or rape her. One hears the worst stories.”

Sunet was not seriously injured. “She only got bumps and bruises, but she is still very shocked,” Jaco said.

Wimpie was taken to the Medi Clinic Highveld in Trichardt, near Secunda. Jaco has confirmed his brother underwent surgery on Thursday on his arm, because of a gunshot wound.

“They inserted pins and plates.”

Two of the four attackers were arrested by the couple’s farm workers.

“We are very grateful.”

“The farm workers said they noticed the attackers on the farm and reported them.”

One of the workers visited Wimpie in the hospital to and told him: “You are my dad. I cannot let people get away with this.”

Brig. Selvy Mohlala, police spokesperson in Mpumalanga, confirmed two suspects were arrested.

“We have arrested these two suspects on the morning after the attack.”

“We have seized the men’s firearms and most of the stolen goods. The vehicle in which the suspects fled has been recovered as well” Mohlala said.

The battered, emotional and traumatized Wimpie Oosterhuis speaks from his hospital bed.

Wimpie tells his story.

“I am very lucky to be able to tell this story and I hope everybody will listen…”

We only ask the question of – When is it enough how much more? Everyone is tired of the things that happen in South Africa. When is it enough?

We hope that something gets done about this because it’s becoming a daily occurrence…

They assaulted us for an hour and demanded money or they will shoot us.

They shot me through the arm, my arm and leg is broken.

They took my wife in to the house and tortured her there.

During the whole attack they demanded money or they will shoot us.

I told them that I don’t have any money because I just came back from Mozambique so they stole my Toyota truck and disappeared with other stolen items.

We are very lucky to be alive.”
