On March 24, 2015 at 12:33 Bassett Central Station received an alert from the License Plate Recognition (LPR) camera system. The license plate it picked up on the vehicle has been involved in theft in the Boston area.
All available response vehicles were dispatched. Response Officer Janse van Rensberg located the vehicle in Aurora. There were 8 occupants inside and around the vehicle, seven males and one female. Officer Wiese arrived shortly after to assist.
They said they were looking for work, however it looked like they were scouting the area. They are from Lenteguer and Portlands in Mitchells Plain.
The Durbanville SAPS were contacted via Bassett Central during this time, they arrived at 12:55 and escorted all 8 suspects to the Police Station for questioning.
The SAPS are investigating this case further.
