Avoid stopping on the N2 at all cost: Somerset West Neighbourhood Watch

Somerset West Neighbourhood Watch are truly saddened to report the death of a citizen of Somerset West after he was attacked on the N2 near Macassar earlier this week. He was a member of the Hawks and spent 18 years in the SAPS also serving in the Helderberg area for many years. We thank him for his service and commitment to the community. May his family find peace in this hour of despair.

We all have family and friends who use the N2 daily and we have to caution members of the public to avoid stopping on the N2 at all cost. The last month have seen numerous ambush attacks on the stretch between Macassar on-ramp and the R300. We have also had a hijacking at the R102 intersection with Main Road. Please ensure that all members of your family is informed about the dangers especially early mornings and early evenings.

We also urge members to be on the lookout for each other on the road and to report obstacles placed on the surface to SWNW Communications Centre (CC) on 021 840 0009 or via Neighbourhood Watch radio (which work up until Cape Town) ensuring others are advised about the danger and to allow the CC to take steps to alert the authorities.
